Privacy Policy
Your data stays with you. Here's exactly what that means.
Parasol is a personal finance app for iPhone made by an independent developer. It is built local-first: the app has no servers, no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it lives, and the choices you have.
The short version
- We do not collect, receive, sell, or share any of your data. We couldn't if we wanted to — nothing you enter in Parasol is ever transmitted to us.
- Everything you enter is stored in a private database on your iPhone.
- If you turn on Automatic iCloud Backup, a copy goes to your personal iCloud Drive — visible only to you, never to us.
- Deleting the app deletes your data. There is nothing to request from us, because we hold nothing.
Data you enter in the app
Accounts, transactions, payees, categories, budgets, recurring rules, and settings are stored in a local database inside Parasol's private app container on your device, protected by iOS's built-in encryption. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to move it (see backups, exports, and email below).
Optional iCloud backup
Parasol can automatically save a backup of your data to your personal iCloud Drive (Files → iCloud Drive → Parasol). These backups are stored in your own Apple Account, protected by Apple's iCloud security, and are only accessible to you — we have no access to your iCloud. You can turn this off at any time in Parasol's Settings, and delete existing backup files with the Files app. iCloud storage is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
Face ID and passcode lock
If you enable the app lock, authentication is performed entirely by iOS. Parasol only receives a yes-or-no answer; your biometric data never leaves your device's Secure Enclave and is never available to the app.
Notifications
Bill reminders are scheduled locally on your device using iOS local notifications. No notification content is sent to any server.
Imports, exports, and email
You can export your data as JSON or CSV, import bank CSV files, and email invoices from tab accounts. These actions only happen when you initiate them, and the data goes only where you send it. Files you export are your responsibility once they leave the app.
The beta (TestFlight)
If you test Parasol through Apple's TestFlight, Apple may share crash logs and any feedback you choose to submit with us, as described in Apple's privacy policy. Crash logs contain technical diagnostics, not your financial data.
This website
parasolbudget.com is a static site with no analytics or cookies of our own. It is served through Cloudflare, which may process standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) to deliver and secure the site, per Cloudflare's privacy policy. If you email us, we see your email address and whatever you write — we use it only to reply.
Children
Parasol is not directed at children under 13, and since the app collects no data, no personal information from anyone — child or adult — is ever gathered by us.
Your choices and control
- Delete everything: delete the app. Your local database goes with it.
- Delete cloud copies: remove the Parasol folder in iCloud Drive using the Files app.
- Take your data with you: export JSON or CSV from Settings at any time.
Changes to this policy
If Parasol's data practices ever change, this page will be updated and the effective date revised. Material changes will be called out in the app's release notes.
